Workshop and Outreach

Improving Availability of Education

Most people will never book a lesson with us, so we take water safety out to where people already are. We design bespoke programs for schools, businesses and local groups, shaped around what each community actually needs rather than delivered from a fixed syllabus. The risks facing a school beside a river aren't the ones a beachfront business needs to plan for, and a session that ignores that difference doesn't change behaviour.

Our outreach includes school visits and classroom sessions, community talks and workshops, first aid and rescue awareness, instructor training, and long-term partnerships with local organisations and businesses.

In schools, we run age-appropriate sessions on recognising risk, safe behaviour around water, and what to do when a friend is in trouble, which is often where children make their most dangerous decisions. These sessions pair naturally with our books, so teachers have something to return to after we leave.

With businesses and organisations operating around water, we cover staff awareness, safety planning, incident response and first aid, whether that’s a hotel with a pool, a surf school, a boat operator or a tourism business whose guests don’t know the coastline.

With parents, teachers and caregivers, we focus on supervision and response: what drowning actually looks like, how quickly and quietly it happens, how to structure supervision so it holds when there are several children and several adults, and what to do in the first minute.

With instructors and community leaders, we run training so the knowledge stays in place after we’ve gone. This is the part that compounds. One trained local instructor reaches more children over a year than we could reach in a month of visits.

Working locally is the point. By sharing what we know as widely as we can and building capability in the people who are already there, we help create communities where life-saving knowledge is common rather than specialist.
